Edo State House of Assembly, has passed a resolution calling on various security agencies in the state to beef up security in and around Esan South East Local Government area to forestall further loss of lives and properties
More also, machineries should be put in place to unmask those behind the recent killings in the area and the kidnapping of one Mr. Ukawi Egberiase so that justice will prevail.
Representing Esan South East Constituency, calling on the State Government and relevant security agencies to come and rescue the people from hoodlums who have taken over the local government.
Hon. Edughele lamented that for the past three days, the people of Esan South East are living under threat, fear and siege as a result of the recent killings and kidnapping in the area. He explained that a police patrol van was ambushed by the hoodlums thereby killing a police inspector and a young man while another young man called Mr. Ukaki Egberiase got missing.
Hon. Edughele therefore urged the Government and relevant security agencies to swing into action so that peace can restore to the area to enable the people go about their legitimate activities
Contributing to the issues, Hon. Lawani Damian, Member representing Etsako Central sympathized with the people of Esan South East Local Government, the family of the police officer and the young man who lost their lives during the process.
Hon. Damian on his part said that it is the responsibility of the Government to protect lives and property and therefore relivant security agencies should swing into action.
Hon. Iyoha Osaigbovo, Member representing Oredo East, said that it is a serious issue while calling on the State Government, relevant security agencies in collaboration with the Nigerian Army to intervene in order to restore peace in the locality.
Hon. Justin Okonoboh, Memb er representing Igueben Constituency, explain that the problem is a general issue in the State and therefore called for the need for Neighborhood watch and community policing to work hand in hand with the security agencies to ensure peace in the state.
Other Members who contributed are Hon. Emmanuel Agbaje, Hon. Okaeben Christopher and Hon. Kingsley Ugabi, they sympathized with the people of Esan South East Local Government and stress that on hands should be on desk in security matters.
They explained that as an individual, one should take responsibility of being conscious of the environment; they called on the security agencies to go to the rural areas and work.
Concluding on the matter, the Speaker, Hon. Adjoto Kabiru, commended Members for their various contribution and ordered that clean copies of the resolutions be forwarded to the Commissioner of police, Commander of Civil Defense, The State Governor, His Excellency Godwin Obaseki, Directorate of State security services (SSS) and The Head of Service of Esan South East Local Government Area.
Similarly, Hon. Roland Asoro, Member representing Orhionmwon II Constituency under matter of personal explanations drew the House attention to the murder of one Mr. Efosa Omoregie from Oben Community in Orhionmwon II Constituency by Fulani Herds men in the constituency is becoming a threat to the people, thereby subjecting them to torture and fear.
He urged that the State Government and relevant security agencies to swing into actions, thereby finding a lasting solution to the matter so that the people can go about their normal activities.
The Speaker, Hon. Adjoto Kabiru, ordered that clean copies of the resolution passed on this issue of Fulani Herdsmen be sent to the relevant agencies for necessary actions.
Also today, the House was in receipt of two petitions dated 4th and 5th September, 2017, one of the petitions is from one Mr. Charles Adiboye titled “Dispelling Fake Naira Notes through automated teller machine A.T.M” of Fedelity Bank P.L.C along Oba Market Road”
Mr. Charles Adiboye claim that he withdrew the sum of N3, 000 from the said bank A.T.M and discovered that one thousand note out of the three thousand naira he withdrew was faked.
He said that he has reported the incident to the Oba – Market road police station an investigation is currently ongoing.
He urged the house to take necessary actions so that others might not fall a victim
The Speaker Hon. Adjoto Kabiru forwarded the petition to the House Standing Committee on Finance and Committee on budget and Appropriation with a mandate to report back to the house within two weeks.
The second petition is from a trader welfare union of Nigeria and titled “An Appeal to State Government to build Edo International Market and protest against some officials demolishing illegal structure”.
They pleaded with the State Government to help them build a Market along upper mission in a land allocated to the traders by Dr. Ogbemudia Osaigbovo when He was a Governor.
The Speaker, Hon. Adjoto Kabiru, referred the petition to the Committee on commerce and Industry which is to report back within two weeks.
